Books with Color Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit sponsored by the United Way for Greater Charlotte and Duke Energy Foundation is offering 500 Live Author Read- Alouds to the first 500 classroom teachers to book an Author Experience with one of our Diversity-Driven Authors.
Use the "Book Now" button to let us know who you are so we can set up your classroom up with an author that best suits your classroom's needs, and get you live author Read- Aloud scheduled. . At this time, our diversity-driven authors read to Pre K-5th grade classrooms but we do have some limited graphic-novel ability for Middle School classrooms.
Author Read- Alouds via Zoom (the majority) are booked in :20 increments with 1 classroom interacting with the author per reading so we can maintain an intimate feel and connection between author and student. For (limited) in-person readings, the :30 experience is booked for up to 25 kids (1 classroom) at a time to ensure an intimate, personal experience..
For many students, this is the very first time they will see or meet an author who looks like them. It's a powerful connection that helps them to see books differently, more positively and take that experience with them moving forward.
Several weeks after the Live reading has taken place, Books with Color will send you a short feed back survey. Teachers who complete the survey in a timely fashion will receive a "thank you" book from your author to keep from as a gift to the classroom/teacher's library so students can read over and over again.
Periodically we will also select certain classrooms at random for a special "Author Party" where your students will get to meet a Books with Color Authors Alliance Author in person for a fun, interactive party with gifts, which includes signed books from that author for each one of the students in the class!!
This is an exciting FREE program that we are proud to offer to our community!
We look forward to partnering with you! If you have any questions or concerns, please contact info@bookswithcolor.org.
