Books with Color was founded in 2020 by two Charlotte authors who saw firsthand that minority children were greatly underrepresented in children's literature. The mutual will to "be the change" and correct this social injustice led our founding Authors to organize and partner with more authors, supporters, and friends to solve this problem together, one classroom and one book at a time.
Our Mission is to increase the accessibility of inclusive and bi-lingual children's reading materials via strategic partnerships between diversity-driven authors and the communities who support them.
Our vision is to provide all children with ample access to age-appropriate reading materials featuring diverse characters and situations that more accurately reflect the colorful world we live in.
Your donation will go towards purchasing three children's books from a self-published author. The author will read aloud and leave those books in the classroom where kids can self-select a book with characters that look like them. This means 25 children will see the power of knowing all children can be the heroes, the princesses, and the solvers of books.
Made from the words brown and ethnicity. Brown represents melanin, the brown pigment we all have. Ethnicity means that which we have in common. Essentially, we all are hues of brown!
In 2021, I began writing my first children’s book, The Adventures of Amazing Grace, about family, flying, magic, and friendship! The book was inspired by a dream I had that turned into a bedtime story for my daughter.
